Reno Rebirth blog: Nickels add up to $20,000 loan for new DeLuxe Cafe
The Reno Rebuild Projec has selected Cafe DeLuxe to receive its first small business loan.

Cafe DeLuxe owner Barrie Schuster received a check for the $20,000 loan Friday at the business, 1690 S. Wells Avenue.

The Reno Rebuild Project was started by business partners and former classmates Michael Connolly, Chris Kahl and Zachary Gage in 2012. The partners, who run Legends Grill, Sports & Spirits; Sierra Tap House; Ole Bridge; Pub and the Brewer’s Cabinet, commit up to $20,000 in nickels taken from every item purchased in their establishments to a fund to help aspiring entrepreneurs launch their businesses.

"We are looking for small mom-and-pop stores that need some money to get going," Kahl said earlier this year.

The Rebuild loans are low-interest, short-term loans with the proceeds going back into the fund.

Applications are judged on their business plan, economic need and use of vacant property.
